Safety Glass Replacement

Safety Glass Replacement – Because Your Safety Comes First

Did you know that federal law requires safety glass in sliding glass doors, patio doors, and certain window applications? At OnTrack Sliding Door Repair, we take your safety and compliance with building codes seriously. That’s why we only install approved safety glass whenever required by law.

During your initial consultation, our experts will inspect your existing glass and inform you immediately if it needs to be replaced with safety-approved tempered or laminated glass.

Why Safety Glass Matters

    • Since 1977, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has mandated safety glass in both fixed and sliding sections of patio doors.

    • We strictly adhere to national building codes and never install non-compliant glass.

    • Over 75,000 injuries involving non-safety sliding glass doors have been documented in the past 10 years.

    • Without safety glass, broken panels can shatter into dangerous, sharp pieces, leading to severe lacerations.

    • Tempered & laminated safety glass reduces injury risk by shattering into small, dull fragments or holding together upon impact.

    • If your sliding door or window has non-safety glass, replacing just one broken panel is not enough—the entire system must be upgraded to meet federal and local building codes.

    • Our licensed professionals replace all non-compliant glass, ensuring your home is safe and up to code.

    • Whether at home or in a commercial setting, safety glass prevents accidents and enhances security.

    • It is especially important for homes with children or high-traffic patio areas.

How to Identify Safety Glass

There are two primary types of safety glass:

🔹 Tempered Glass

  • Heat-treated to shatter into small, dull pebbles instead of sharp shards.

  • Must be marked with an official logo (“bug”) that references safety standards like ANSI Z-97.1 or 16CFR-1201.

🔹 Laminated Glass

  • Made with two glass layers and a PVB interlayer, which holds the glass intact even when broken.

  • Can be cut to size, but cutting may remove its identification mark.

If you're unsure whether your door or window has safety glass, we can inspect and verify it for you.
